It’s all about a healthy indoor environment:
Marmoleum is made with natural raw materials. Marmoleum has no adverse health issues whatsoever, either during production, it’s useful life, or disposal. Marmoleum is the “natural” choice… made with natural materials and installed with solvent free adhesives, there are no harmful VOC’s being emitted.
When your issues include keeping a dust free environment due to allergy and asthma concerns, again marmoleum is the natural choice. The anti static properties of marmoleum not only reduce the potential for electric shock, but makes the floor easier to clean in that dust and dirt will not easily adhere to it.
The bactericidal properties of marmoleum prevent micro-organisms including Salmonella Typhimurium and Staphylococcus Aureus from multiplying themselves. It is the continual oxidation of the linseed oil that enables this phenomenon.
For these reasons, Marmoleum is the floor covering of choice in many hospitals, as well as being recommended by medical professionals for people with respiratory disorders.
Marmoleum environmental promise
Social and environmental responsibility has been a core value at Forbo for many decades. Environmentally compatible products and state-of-the-art processes ensure that each production stage minimises our environmental impact.
We engage in responsible product sourcing that combines our customers’ preference for quality with care for the environment, carefully selecting suppliers who reflect our environmental and social concerns. We constantly seek to improve the environmental performance of our processes; all of our manufacturing operations are ISO 14001 certified. Raw materials and energy are used efficiently, waste is recycled wherever possible, and emissions are kept to an absolute minimum.
For our products we carry out full life-cycle assessments and provide detailed information on the results so that customers can make their own responsible choices.
The most natural of materials
Life-cycle analysis shows that our linoleum products are the ecologically preferred floor covering. Linoleum is produced from renewable materials: linseed oil, rosins, wood flour, jute and ecologically responsible pigments. These materials underlie the charm that gives each design its inimitable, distinguished look.
Cork
ABOUT CORK
Cork is produced from peeling the live bark from the cork tree which grows naturally around the Mediterranean Ocean. This harvesting can be done every nine years without damaging the plant and the governing bodies in the region have strict laws about the harvest schedule to ensure a bountiful harvests well into the future. Cork is both renewable and reclaimed, as the flooring is made from the scrap after wine bottle corks are made.
BENEFITS
From Novafloorings.com:
Durability
It is cork’s gaseous composition that makes the cork both compressible and elastic and allows it to return to its original shape after being subjected to pressure. This is the reason why cork floors are extremely durable. When the cork is subjected to strong pressure the air in the cells is compressed and reduces in volume, when released from pressure the cork immediately recovers back from indentation. Cork is appropriate for damp areas, homes with pets and living and kitchen areas because it naturally repels water and is resistant to mold, mildew and bacteria. It is warm and sound-absorbent.
Low Conductivity
Cork is a perfect sound and thermal insulator which is why cork floors are used in many places like churches, libraries, museums, art galleries (and in homes for excellent comfort and warmth).
Anti-static, Hypo-allergic
Cork floors do not absorb dust and because of that the maintenance of cork floors are easy and, therefore, do not cause allergies or create a risk to people who suffer from asthma or other respiratory diseases.
Impermeability
The presence of suberin in cork makes it impermeable to both liquids and gas. Consequently, it is not subject to grow moldy.
Fire Retardant
Cork is a natural fire inhibitor and will not spread flame. Cork is also non-toxic and does not off-gas. Nova Distinctive Floors’ products meet the highest standards in the industry.
Environmentally Friendly
Even though cork comes from a renewable resource and also recyclable, Nova Distinctive Floors takes it one step forward in its manufacturing process by recycling 100% of their manufacturing by-products for their facility’s heating system. They are dedicated to protecting the environment by using renewable resources to manufacture cork floors to provide a unique flooring system for your design needs.
