The San Diego Sustainable Living Institute wants to inspire San Diegans to install over 365 greywater systems in 2012! Did you know that hooking up a greywater system to your laundry, a family of four can save up to 16,000 gallons of water a year on landscaping?

What is greywater? And what are greywater systems?

Greywater is the waste water from laundry, dishes, or showers. While this water is no longer okay to drink, plants love it! Using greywater to water your yard or garden is a great way to save money on your water bill, while also reducing the city’s overall water consumption. A greywater system is a simple improvement to reroute the water from a washing machine or dishwasher to a storage tank that can then be used for landscape irrigation.

New Hours for 2013

Olive Branch is now making it easier to talk about your individual projects! We will now see customers by appointment only to make sure we have the time to talk to you individually. We are also happy to meet you at the store for your Yolo paint and other needs. We will still have drop-in hours on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Happy 2013!

Great News: upcoming class

Rick Chitwood, author of Measured Home Performance, is coming to San Diego, tentatively on November 3rd 2012. I will post on Olive Branch Green Building Supply calendar.

Topics will include building better homes, money and energy saving, and how to remodel in a way that makes sense because “less is more”.

He is so simple and so smart; it’s refreshing.

Examples of the sort of thing Rick does are below: come to the talk to hear about what’s innovative in the pictures and how you can be helped to save both energy and money.
